Week 12 # Wrap up; social networks and catch up

Social Networking.... ahhhh... isn't it great. Not only is it a great way for all of us to keep in touch with our friends and family but it also helps the library.

With the library having it's own "myspace" we could make people aware of our events, introduce them to our staff members and many more!

This is a great way to make the library known and to encourage more members of society to use our libraries facilities.

Hopefully my supervisors have the same ideas :)

Well this is going to be my last post! I have had a wonderful time on library learnings 2.0 and am looking forward to more experiences just like this one. Not only has this benifited me but it is also allowing me to help patrons who are interested in this too. Our library has benifeted greatly from this and myself and my fellow staff memebers have gained many ideas to try and make our library more effective.

THANK YOU AND GOOD BYE!!

Week 11 # Online Applications and Tools

Its fantastic to be introduced to all the free products that are available online. Googledocs, for example is great! We have a wordprocessor in our library, which is seperate to our internet computers, and we charge $2.50 for the use of it and an additional 25c for print outs. Googledocs would be a great way to save these people the $2.50 charge. This way the customers would be able to surf the net whilst using googledocs to create a word document. This would be so benifical for our library!

Week 10 # Mashups

HERE IS MY MASHUP!!

I made a calander. I found this so enjoyable. Putting my own images on there and showing my skills to everyone in the office! These are not only fun but they give a personal touch to things around the office.

I also found a mashup of a calander eith the photo being a picture of the library. This is a great idea as it is advertising the library effectivly as you can hand these out to customers at the start of the year or every time a new member joins. VERY APPROPRIATE!

Week 9 # Podcasts

My little sister knew more about podcasts then i did! It was definiatly time to catch up! She did teach me a thing or two though!

I've listened to podcasts a few times times in the past and found them an easy enough tool to understand.

Podcasting is good for filtering only the material that you want is a great promotion tool. Podcasts will be great for distance learning of any sort.

It was so great to listen to some that we were given the option to on Learning Logs 2.0.

It was great to finally learn more about these!

Week 8 # Answer boards and social searching

Ahhh technology. What happened to the days where customers wrote down there reveiws on ieces of paper and shared them only with their friends?? And items in the library were borrowed because borrowers had heard they were a good read from there family?

OH NO NOW ITS ALL CHANGED! Borrowers can now post there complaints, reveiws and reccommendations on answer boards. And how wonderful it is.

Customers would really enjoy doing this in the library as they like to share with everyone the types of things they like to read and what they reccomend not to read. They would also be able to comment on the events and activities that we are planning to hold in the library and therefor more(FREE!!!!!) publicity for us!

Sites like "Yahoo!7 Answers" are a great way to communicate effectivly with other poeple who visit the site. People can enlighten you with their knowledge on questions you have asked and new information can be found.

ABSOLUTLEY FANTASTIC!

Although where is the privacy? There is other ways that you can find out answers. By doing a google search or go onto Ask.com for a more private way of gwetting your questions answered.

As for the answer boards being used for libraries though, Great idea! =]

Week 7 # del.icio.us

This week was so confusing. It took me so long to figure out how to link my del.icio.us account to my blog. But i think i have finally got there.

This can be a great way of sharing information with other libraries and easily catagorising your favourite websites without using favourites all the time ( i am very guily of this!)

Knowing that we all can use sites like this will make our jobs alot easier

It's great.

The link to my del.icio.us account is below!!

Au Revoir for now!

Week 6 # Videos Online

Whoever invented YouTube needs a HUGE pat on the back. I have to admit before this i had never experienced Google Video before but i think that this is great as well!! Not only are these useful for finding comical and funny things (like the famous Summer Heights High, does anyone else LOVE this show!!!????) but it is also an extremelly usueful way to show people information.

We have all heard the horror stories although about people filming violent attacks made on other people and they have been posted on sites such as "you tube" but surely there is a way to monitor this so it can be used to entertain and benifet the rest of us who would like to use the service sensibly!

I found both of these sites extremely easy to use and also enjoyed every minute of it. It would also be extremely benificial to libraries that would like to give their community and other communities a look inside their library and visual show them what services they have to offer. I think it would be a very good form of advertisement escpecially because you can make the segment appealing by the use of background music and commentaries.

I think that as more people see the benifits of these sites it will become more widely used.

I love both Family guy and the simpons. The battle is on in this You tube video. And it was so easy to embed aswell(not!!)!!

Everyone will enjoy this one!
Good luck!

Week 5 # Wikis

LOVED IT!!
How conveniant for everyone! Looking at the different wikis that were provided by libraries 2.0, already i can see how helpful and interesting they are!!! It showed me that there are all different types of wikis. Ranging from the more serious once (like book lovers) to the ones that are mocking and funny (wookieepedia).

Wikis are a great way to communicate and stay in contact with people and allows information to be more orginsed. I love how you can edit the pages by clicking "edit page" (and putting in your user name and password!). It is a great way to access knowledge of a range of different people and usually ones that know more about a subject that i do! hehe.

In libraries it would be a great way to communicate and orginise events (escpecially in our library as we have a number of branches) without the hassel of emails and long phonecalls..

DEFINATLY ONE THAT ILL BE USING!!!

Week 4 # RSS Feeds

I can't say that this week was one that i truely enjoyed. I found it difficult to find the eeds to use and i think it would be just as easy to search for the information you want as you need it. Although i do understand how it could be of help to some people and how it could be used in libraries as it would make it somewhat easier for members of the public and also staff members to gather informations about authors, publishers and the library etc..

Whilst browsing the sites to feed onto my page, i did come across some interesting ones. Like the ABC website (ABC News). This would be helpful and allow you to be updated with the news. Unfortunatly i did not find any other library blogs!!! =[

As i have previously stated i think the RSS Feeds could prove to be useful in the library to gather needed information quickly and officially. I just dont think this is the thing for me!!!!

Flikr Images

This picture that i found on "flikr" is pretty much what i feel about using this whole images thing. it was so confusing. i had to set up so many different accounts to just get one image!! It left me feeling all of the above images =] hopefully it will become easier!

Libraries Learning Course

I am taking part in this Libraries Learning 2.0 course and finding it quite interesting.

Personally I can understand though why only a small percentage of blogs get read each year. The things that some people write about are unbelievable. There is no way that i want to read about what happens in some random persons everyday life from waking up, going to the toilet, eating and going to bed. Its ridiculous. And why anyone would want to share that information with the whole world has me baffled.

By taking part in these blogs i think alot of us will come to realise that their can actually be some interesting blogs out there. I know in our library we have 2. One for the regional history and one for news.

And besides, the course gets me out of doing actual work =)
BONUS!

Bye for now.
